Rubén Sánchez
Rubén Sánchez (b. Madrid, 1979) is a Spanish contemporary artist working at the intersection of narrative figuration and abstraction. Rooted in his Mediterranean heritage, Sánchez draws on the modernism of Matisse, Léger, and Juan Gris and the Purism of Le Corbusier and Ozenfant, fusing the geometric clarity of these traditions with the looseness and rhythm of 90s skate culture and graffiti to build a vocabulary entirely his own. His central subject is the still life as a study in equilibrium — figures and vessels caught mid-movement in compositions of studied imbalance that probe the fragility of daily harmony and the beauty of human imperfection. Sánchez works across painting, sculpture, ceramics, textile, and large-scale public murals; his artwork can be found in private collections and public spaces across Europe, the Middle East, and the Americas. Commissions include outdoor sculptures for Nike's European headquarters in Amsterdam, the signature artworks at The Muse boutique hotel in Dubai, the official identity for the 2019 UEFA Champions League Final, and collaborations with Apple, Armani, and Google.
